How do we talk about the transportation in Japanese?

 

で (de) : transportation

 

When we give the information about the transportation, 

 

vehicle + で

 

is used.

 

For example, 

 

電車で学校へ行きます。

densha de gakkou e iki masu.

I go to school by train.

 

飛行機で日本へ行きます。

hikouki de nihon e iki masu.

I go to Japan by plane.

 

ポルシェでカジノに行きました。

porushe de kajino ni iki mashita.

I went to a casino in Porsche.

 

Exception 歩いて, 走って

 

We can go somewhere on foot. Or sometimes, we have to run to the office.

For such cases, 

 

歩いて

aruite

on foot

 

走って

hashitte

as running

 

are used.

 

歩いて祖母の家へ行きました。

aruite sobo no ie ni iki mashita.

I went to my grandmother’s house on foot.

 

走ってうちに帰りました。

hashitte uchi ni kaeri mashita.

I ran and went home.

 

How to ask about the transportation?

 

When we want to ask about what means of transport they use, 

 

何で

nan de

by what

 

is used.

 

For example, 

 

A :

毎日、何で大学へ行きますか。

mainichi nan de daigaku e iki masuka.

What do you use to get to the university every day?

 

B :

車で行きます。

kuruma de iki masu.

By car.
