How do I say something like, “It’s from Monday to Friday” in Japanese?
Use から・まで (date time : from X to Y)
When we want to say that something is from a certain date or time to another date or time,
X kara Y made
From X to Y
can be used, such as :
学校は8時から16時半までです。
gakkou wa hachi ji kara juu roku ji han made desu.
I have school from eight to four-thirty.
yasumi wa mokuyoubi kara nichiyoubi made desu.
Holidays are from Thursday to Sunday.
Use から and まで separately (date time : from X, to Y)
Just like in English, we can use から (kara : from) and まで (made : to) separately, but in this context, まで can be interpreted as “until”.
gakkou wa hachi ji kara desu.
I have school from eight to four-thirty.
yasumi wa nichiyoubi made desu.
Holidays are until Sunday.
How to make a question using から and まで
To make a question with から and まで, just replese X and Y elements to the question word.
For example,
A :
gakkou wa nan ji kara nan ji made desu ka.
What are the school hours?
B :
hachi ji kara juu roku ji han made desu.
It’s from eight to four-thirty.
A :
yasumi wa nanyoubi made desu ka.
Until what day are the holidays?
B :
nichiyoubi made desu.
It’s until Sunday.
