So, for example,

ashita wa doyoubi desu.]

It’s Saturday tomorrow.

A :

syuppatsu wa nanyoubi desu ka.

What day of the week is the departure?

Tips

Just like the names of the days of the week are shortened (e.g. Monday becomes Mon) in Engilsh, the Japanese days of the week can be shortened for the written context, sucha s on a calendar.

To do this, simply remove 曜日

getsu

Mon

ka

Tue

sui

Wed

moku

Thur

kin

Fri

do

Sat

nichi

Sun

And when we count the days of the week (For example, when we want to know how many days there still are before an event), we count these words one by one :

月火水木金土日

getsu ka sui moku kin do nichi

Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun
